Medical Cannabis Licensing Guide
As of April 18, 2024, Kentucky has established legislative processes to legalize the sale and distribution of medical cannabis to registered cardholders to begin January 1, 2025.

Initial License Availability
The Kentucky Medical Cannabis Program offers four types of business licenses for conducting activities related to specific responsibilities: Cultivators, Processors, Dispensaries, and Safety Compliance Facilities.
*Tier IV cultivator and producer licenses will not be available during initial license application period.
Following license approval, license fees must be paid by credit card or ACH/echeck to the Cabinet within fifteen (15) calendar days of invoice receipt. Licenses will not be issued to businesses that fail to timely pay the associated licensing fee.
Kentucky Medical Cannabis Application Information
During the initial licensing period, applications will be limited to ONE business type (Cultivation, retail, processor, OR safety compliance facility)
For dispensary applications, one application per region will be allowed (11 regions in KY in total)
For cultivation applications, one application per cultivation tier will be allowed (Tier IV will not be available during the initial application period).
Location
An existing lease/deed or contingency agreement is needed for application approval.

1000 ft. from public school, nonpublic school, or daycare.
